Underground utility work is high-consequence: live gas and electric, unmapped conductors, deep trenches, and roadway traffic. We plan every job as a hazard-control problem first — competent persons on the ground, one-call locates in hand, a written plan for the bore, and daily toolbox talks before anyone breaks the surface. The program below travels with the crew to every jobsite in Central New York and Pennsylvania.

Trench safety & competent persons

OSHA-qualified competent persons on excavation crews, with protective systems on every trench — shoring, sloping, or benching selected for the soil and depth, plus daily inspection before entry.

One-call / 811 discipline

We notify New York 811 / Dig Safely New York and PA One Call before every dig, honor each system's notice window, and pothole to daylight to confirm existing utilities before we break ground.

Directional-drilling inadvertent-return (frac-out) plan

Before the rig walks on, every crossing has a written IR plan — geotechnical read of the bore path, a drilling-fluid program, downhole and surface monitoring, containment on site, and a step-by-step contingency and notification procedure.

PPE, toolbox talks & OSHA 10/30 training

Task-specific PPE, a daily toolbox talk and job-hazard analysis before work starts, and a trained workforce — OSHA 10 for crew, OSHA 30 for supervision.

Operator qualification (OQ) for gas

Gas-distribution tasks are performed by operator-qualified personnel, with OQ coordinated to the operator's covered-task list so gas main and service work meets each utility's requirements.

Flagging, MPT & traffic control

Trained flaggers (ATSSA) and maintenance-and-protection-of-traffic plans for roadway work, built to the DOT and municipal requirements for the job.

Drug & alcohol program

A substance-abuse policy with testing that meets utility and DOT contractor requirements — details provided to your prequal and procurement teams on request.

Standards and references

Our bores and excavations are planned and executed to the safety standards and trenchless practice the industry relies on, and every dig starts with a one-call locate. The authorities and systems our program follows:

  • OSHA — the federal authority whose occupational-safety, excavation, and trench-safety standards our jobsite and crew practices follow (competent person, protective systems, OSHA 10/30).
  • NASTT — the North American Society for Trenchless Technology, whose good-practice guidance governs how directional bores and inadvertent-return plans are planned and executed.
  • New York 811 / Dig Safely New York — the New York one-call system we notify before every excavation to protect existing utilities.
  • PA One Call — the Pennsylvania one-call system we notify before every dig on the PA side of our coverage.
